Antimicrobial resistance is now a global issue (Sekhri, 2013). Burkholderia pseudomallei is resistant to penicillin and its derivatives, first and second generation cephalosporins and it is susceptible to some third generation cephalosporins (remarkably ceftazidime, but also cefotaxime and ceftriaxone) (Dance et al., 1989, Leelarasamee and Bovornkitti, 1989), carabapenem and fluroquinolones (Dance et al., 1989 and Ashdown, 1988), amoxicillin-clavulanate and co-trimaxazole (a combination of trimethoprime-sulfamethoxale (TMP_SMX)) (Chaowagul, 2000).
